The 25th Hairy Crab InvitationalThe field smelt trouble when Spoons Champion Marc drew big hitting Dunham Jr at the pre-tourney Calcutta. The heavy favorites opened a four shot lead in the Best Ball that they never relinquished, going wire to wire to win the 24th Hairy Crab Invitational in Whistler, Canada. Jolly Founder Jim teamed with local Scotsman Jim gamely chasing for three days to finish 2nd. The tall boys Jeremy & Jole and Villanova Brad & Pin rounded out the money in 3rd and 4th.
Stew's step-cousin Brett teamed with alternate shot specialist Doddsie who claimed yet another Toilet Bowl purse. Swampy & Has grabbed a TB 2nd, rounding out the paying honors. Not to be outdone by his son, Dunham Sr teamed with Chief for a comprehensive wirel to wire DFL.
Charity night saw the debut of Chairman Stew's first AI masterpiece. "Viva Las Beeva" featuring a cast of young Crustaceans, was well received. Joe's twenty plus years of auctioning Calcutta teams and charity items saw our charity total push over the $1 million dollar mark thanks to the generosity of our players, bettors, donators and buyers.
Whistler BC, the home of many a Jolly Beaver proved a stunning host. GR did the bulk of the heavy organizing for the 2nd year in a row with Joe and Stew riding herd. Thanks to Swampy on the computer, Has on the camera and Doddsie on the web in their usual support roles. Finally thanks to several bears, whose appearances kept things interesting. Not so much to the crow at Nicklaus North who ate Brett's lunch.
GR Jr/Grandpa Ron fired back to back 64’s at Renaissance to reel in early leaders Old GR/Chief Beavis and win the 2025 Hairy Crab Invitational. With their victory, the pair became both the youngest and the oldest champions in Crab history. Corn Dog/Fiji Man, S2/Has rounded out the money in 3rd and 4th.
Boom Chuka Lucka/Pinhead made a final day run to capture the Toilet Bowl while Cave/Speed Bump fell to DFL.
The field enjoyed a wonderful week in East Lothian, playing Dunbar, Gullane, North Berwick and Renaissance. Janek highlighted the practice rounds with an hole in one at Gullane and henceforth will be known as "Ace".
Per usual, a healthy sum was raised to help are long time beneficiary, One Sky. Thanks to all our contributors.
Many thanks to GR who handled this year’s organization. Dow who hosted and the outstanding staff at Renaissance Club who provided excellent service throughout. Also thanks to our avid photographer, Has, for many of the pictures which grace the site.
Sunrise in the Mid Hudson valley in NY. This trophy easily seen by all on or near the river.
I want to thank big brother Joe for introducing me and including me in so many travels. Before he went to China he had no friends-now he is (and I include myself) so lucky to have you all as friends. You share something intangible and perhaps unspoken that is beyond words.
As for my partner Liam, you were the best partner one could ask for. Gracious, supportive and a great golfer. Hopefully your journey of developing and enjoying true friendship as seen at The Crab has begun and you are off to a great start. The oldest player in the group could not have won without the youngest. The vitality of age and the wisdom of youth - or is it the other way around? Inany case we did it with grace and ease and are humble champs. I’m already starting to train for next year.
So, thank you everyone for including me as one of you. I am honored and proud.
Til next year…..
Doctor Ron
